THE TIPPLERS BAR - PROMOTIONAL PHOTOSHOOT

Capturing quality imagery for your small business

The following are some images I created from a shoot with a local mobile service, The Tipplers Bar. This shoot took place at a very small gathering of 15 people for a private 40th birthday in a garage. Tipplers had no visual assets yet as this was their first gig so i was hired to shoot some content for them on the night. The shooting space and conditions were very difficult as ambient lighting was next to non existent and there was a large ugly garage door behind the bar. Only a handful of people at the bar at any one time so we really had to give the sense of a busy bar style environment. I am happy that we managed to come away with some moody, punchy and interesting images showing off what the Tipplers Bar staff and team bring to each event.

Capturing Motocross with Slow Shutter Speeds

Whats the slowest shutter speed you can shoot to achieve useable images?

I decided to find out at the local MX track. These photos were all shot on a Nikon D750 using a 25 year old Nikon 80-200mm F2.8 lens. The lens nor body has any form of stabilisation or vibration reduction. All these shots are hand held which means no monopods/tripods.

The useable images i came away with were taken using a shutter speed of between 1/25th sec to 1/50th sec at 200mm focal length. This is very slow for a 200mm lens of this age and not advisable if you want a great hit rate of sharp in focus images. I had never tried to shoot with a shutter speed this slow on this lens and so I was pleasantly surprised to find that many of the shots worked and had the effect i was aiming for. What I wont tell you is how many shots were complete rubbish and blurry/ out of focus ( Hint- It was A LOT ).

Husqvana Nuda 900R Cafe Racer - Magazine Photo Shoot

JOSH’S CUSTOM HUSQVANA NUDA 900R CAFE RACER

Back on a warm January afternoon in 2019 i had the pleasure of shooting Josh’s custom Husqvarna Nuda 900R Cafe Racer for the April issue of Retrobike Magazine.

After a small accident and a generous insurance payout Josh decided to do something different with his already very rare Nuda. He decided to convert it into a modern Cafe Racer with a custom kit made specifically for the bike by a German parts specialist called LSL. The bikes suspension and tuning was also been enhanced by the experts at Race Center. Theres a lot more to the story of this bike which can be found in its magazine feature but for now enjoy the photos.

These images were featured in the April 2019 Issue of Retro Bike Magazine.

Wildwood Rock Extreme Enduro

Headed out to the Wildwood Rock Extreme Enduro course for one of their monthly practice days. It was great to see how this discipline of Enduro is gaining huge momentum with riders of all ages and skill levels giving it a go. Although i only managed to see a few riders in action ( as the course is huge) their skills in balance and control over these difficult obstacles was amazing.

Meguiar's MotorEx 2019

MotorEx is Australia’s largest and most one of its prestigious car show. I headed down to the Melbourne Showgrounds back in May for a look at this special event. On display was everything from 6 second drag cars, half million dollar show cars, JDM classics, rusty hot rods, American and Australian muscle and a sprinkling of drift pigs in action. With over 400 cars on display and hundreds of exhibitors it was quite the spectacle.

It’s always tough work trying to get any decent photos at a car show as there are so many people and distractions in front of the cars so i didn’t really bother. I did manage to snap a few shots on the day, below you can view my favourites.
