WILDERNESS WEAR - LOCATION LIFESTYLE BASED PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY
Capturing unique imagery for an outdoor brand with a lifestyle photoshoot in the Victorian countryside
Back in May the marketing team from WildernessWear got in touch to create some new imagery for their many products for social media and their website. Wilderness Wear are an Australian owned company that manufactures their products right here in inner Melbourne. Bringing the finest merino wool socks, undergarments and outdoor clothing to market since 1989. After briefing by the client a date and location was chosen with the marketing manager, Jonathan from Three Peaks Digital, and we headed with a small team up to the stunning Mt Macedon about and hours drive north of Melbourne.
For these images we really wanted to capture the product being used in its intended environment, the Aussie outdoors, so this beautiful part of Victoria was the perfect backdrop for us. Having the marketing manager on this shoot was not only fun but gave us the chance to create exactly what kind of imagery he required to best represent the brand online. Having him on hand to review the images on the fly made the day run smoothly as we nailed every shot, location and product.
Wilderness Wear is a brand i really stand behind and love working with as their products are excellent ( I’m wearing their merino socks as i’m typing this). I’m really looking forward to our next shoot together on location wherever that may take us.

“We loved working with Alex on the WW product shoot. The images captured met the brief and more. Alex’s creativity really shone through and his understanding of imagery requirements across websites, social media etc. plus his quick turnaround time meant we’ll definitely be using his services for future product range shoots.”
HUSQVARNA TX300 - DRIVEWAY AND GARAGE PHOTOSHOOT
How to get creative when you are stuck at home?
Being stuck at home during Melbournes lockdown i decided to practice some ideas i’ve had in my head for a while. My home driveway and garage are not ideal places to shoot as they have cluttered unflattering backgrounds. So with these photos i decided to use a combination of my Godox Studio lights, water smoke and coloured gels to make a boring location into something a bit more eye catching. Check out the final results below and also a short BTS video of how these shots were created.

Professional Website and LinkedIn Headshots for 'Calibre3' and 'Monday People'
I was approached by Kristen and Patrick to create some images for their rebranded business’ Calibre 3. Calibre3 are a bespoke Sales Recruitment Specialists and required some imagery for their re-branded website alongside profile photos for Patricks personal LinkedIn account. Being an entrepreneurial couple Kristen also required some imagery for her new business venture and for her website Monday People along with her own LinkedIn profile.
I spent the afternoon at this gorgeous couples home capturing them at their most relaxed, although Kristen acted camera shy she was a natural in front of the lens. We also managed to get their beautiful children into some of the shots.

“Alex is someone who is not only an incredibly talented photographer, but he brings a real ‘human element’ to his work and made us feel completely comfortable. His work is top quality and he went out of his way to ensure we were happy with the end results - which we absolutely were! Will definitely work with him again.”
1972 CITROEN SM - CLASSIC CAR PHOTOSHOOT
A unique photoshoot with a very unique automobile
A classic car you don’t see very often and one that many don’t even knew exists is the Citroen SM. A grand tourer sports car in every sense of the word. This model was Citroen’s foray into the ‘sports car’ world as the company had just purchased Maserati and decided to use the beautiful Italian engine in their french chassis . The engine started life as a 2.7 litre V6 with triple carburettors but by the end of its short lifespan was enlarged to 3.0litre with fuel injection and around 200hp ( back in the early 1970s). This same engine was used in the Maserati Merak albeit in a mid mounted format.
The car you see here was brought into Australia in 2009. It’s a US Spec car so does not have the special Euro Spec swivel headlights. This is a 2.7 litre 1972 model with the 5 speed manual. Since the current owner purchased it in 2013 it has received a full overhaul and rebuild of all the hydraulic suspension and braking systems and a full engine rebuild as the motor had let go.
These overly complex cars are rare to see on Australian roads as most have been left in disrepair because of the exorbitant servicing costs. There are just a few more final touches left to finish on the car before this French Tourer will be seen cruising the streets of Melbourne.

THE NATURAL DISTILLING CO - GIN & VODKA PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY
Local distilling company The Natural Distilling Co approached me earlier this year to create some fresh imagery for their brand. The brief was to create some eye capturing imagery for use on their website and social media accounts. The shoot was more about their product being used in the real world with drinks and cocktails rather than static e-commerce style images on a white backdrop ( the brand already had that content).
We set up the shoot to take place at a bar that one of the co-owners runs which would give us the perfect mix of outdoor and indoor settings. I do love having the client/business owners on board during a shoot as everyone can give their input and help shape the look and feel of what we capture. I used a tethered capture straight to my laptop for this shoot so the clients could see immediately what the photos looked like and make any changes to the styling or set on the fly. Working this way always guarantees client satisfaction and makes sure we are creating exactly what they require to meet the brief.
The client came away with many months worth of new social media and website content from just a half day photoshoot. We already have plans for the next on location photoshoot which will involve heading to country Victoria to capture the farm where the hemp gin/vodka is not only harvested but distilled and bottled. I’m very much looking forward to the next planned shoot as soon as Covid restrictions ease and we can get back to work.

THE TIPPLERS BAR - PROMOTIONAL PHOTOSHOOT
Capturing quality imagery for your small business
The following are some images I created from a shoot with a local mobile service, The Tipplers Bar. This shoot took place at a very small gathering of 15 people for a private 40th birthday in a garage. Tipplers had no visual assets yet as this was their first gig so i was hired to shoot some content for them on the night. The shooting space and conditions were very difficult as ambient lighting was next to non existent and there was a large ugly garage door behind the bar. Only a handful of people at the bar at any one time so we really had to give the sense of a busy bar style environment. I am happy that we managed to come away with some moody, punchy and interesting images showing off what the Tipplers Bar staff and team bring to each event.

MODIFIED TOYOTA HILUX PHOTOSHOOT
Prowling the streets in Melbournes toughest HiLux
Late last year Charlene got in touch with me wanting to surprise her husband with a photoshoot of his heavily modified Sixth Generation Toyota Hilux. Justin had built this car over many years and poured countless hours and dollars into getting the car to the stage you see here. The Hilux has graced the covers of local 4WD magazines on numerous occasions however for this shoot Justin wanted to capture the 4WD in an urban setting and not out in the bush or tracks.
Unfortunately after years of being hassled by the overzealous police and receiving numerous unroadworthy tickets, Justin was now going to revert the Hilux back to a legal wheel/tyre size and ride height to stop the attention of the boys in blue. The photos you see here were a way to capture the memories of the car in its finished form. The day after this shoot the car was booked in to the mechanics workshop to bring the suspension and wheel package back to stock. I’m glad we could provide Justin with some everlasting memories of his build.
If you find yourself searching for the perfect gift for that car obsessed special someone in your life Get in touch and lets organise a shoot with their pride and joy.
BREMAR AUTOMATION - WEBSITE AND REBRANDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Bremar Automation are an automotive engineering firm based in Melbourne. The companies founder & owner Brett contacted me as he had engaged a design agency to create a brand new website and also manage their online google ad-words, facebook ads and social media campaigns along with much of their online strategy. The problem Brett had was his company did not have any current professional photography to best represent what Bremar does.
This commercial photoshoot took place on location at the companies HQ, working to a brief and plan discussed previously with the web developer and the CEO Brett. There was a specific feel and colour toning that the web developer required so this was added into the brief and shots crafted around this. A half day shoot was scheduled in which i captured photographs of the engineering team working, in meetings and providing training, using their engineering tools, scanners and equipment, and also a few images of the products they have manufactured. We also shot some headshots of the small team and some casual images of them in the warehouse.
The new Bremar Automotive website is Now Live and the visual assets we created will be used for future online marketing and also printed brochures.
