1972 CITROEN SM - CLASSIC CAR PHOTOSHOOT

A unique photoshoot with a very unique automobile

A classic car you don’t see very often and one that many don’t even knew exists is the Citroen SM. A grand tourer sports car in every sense of the word. This model was Citroen’s foray into the ‘sports car’ world as the company had just purchased Maserati and decided to use the beautiful Italian engine in their french chassis . The engine started life as a 2.7 litre V6 with triple carburettors but by the end of its short lifespan was enlarged to 3.0litre with fuel injection and around 200hp ( back in the early 1970s). This same engine was used in the Maserati Merak albeit in a mid mounted format.

The car you see here was brought into Australia in 2009. It’s a US Spec car so does not have the special Euro Spec swivel headlights. This is a 2.7 litre 1972 model with the 5 speed manual. Since the current owner purchased it in 2013 it has received a full overhaul and rebuild of all the hydraulic suspension and braking systems and a full engine rebuild as the motor had let go.

These overly complex cars are rare to see on Australian roads as most have been left in disrepair because of the exorbitant servicing costs. There are just a few more final touches left to finish on the car before this French Tourer will be seen cruising the streets of Melbourne.

Citroen DS23 Pallas - Autumn Photoshoot

Getting up close and personal with this restored 1973 Citroen DS23

Autumn in Melbourne is a beautiful time of year, the afternoon light is golden and the trees turn a burnt orange. This was the perfect time to head just 1hr out of Melbourne to Mt Macedon for a private photoshoot with this restored Citroen DS23 Pallas Injection Electronique. The late afternoon sun mixed with the smoke in the air to create some of the most magical lighting i have witnessed all year. This particular restoration was carried out by the team at Triple R Luxury Car Hire in East Brunswick and the car performed flawlessly. The Pink Panther- A Classic Citroen DS21

The 1967 Citroen DS21 "Goddess"

Last night i headed out to the docklands to take some shots of this classic car. I got told off by security near the docks for blocking the road so didn't get any shots in front of the container ships or cranes so had to scout for some other places to shoot. One thing i learnt was that shooting multiple exposures on a Citroen DS is hard and needs some planning. As the car slowly sinks back down on it's suspension once it loses hydraulic pressure some of my frames were not aligned. Lesson learnt. This was a bit of a challenging shoot but i'm still happy with the way the final images turned out.
